Attendance and Tardies/Asistencia y tardancias

To excuse an absence, we must hear from you within 24 hours of the student’s return to school. Please send a note or call the absence line at 779-7415(press 2). When your child is sick, please make sure they stay home. If they have a temperature over 100 degrees, students need to be fever free for 24 hours without the aid of fever reducing medication. If they have a cough or sneezing more than normal. If your child complains of pain in ears, throat, head, or chest. Has thrown up in the past 12 hours or had 2 or more episodes of diarrhea in the past 24 hours.

Although we are asking that you let your child take responsibility for what they need to bring to school as this teaches them to become responsible adults, you as the parent are responsible for getting your child to school on time. Students need to be at school at 8:00 a.m. Please arrange your morning schedule so that this becomes the practice at your house.

School Visits

We encourage parents to come to school frequently to visit their child’s classroom and to take an active part

in the education of their child. For reasons of safety

we ask parents make an appointment with the teacher before the visit. All visitors need to report to the

officebefore going to your child’s class. When visiting classrooms please leave small children at home since young children often distract both students and the visitor.

We also ask parents to avoid conferences with the teachers during such visits, so the teacher can conduct class as usual.

Kimball my limit a parent’s access to their children’s classroom or school grounds if the teacher or

principal determines that the parent’s presence interferes, disrupts, obstructs or causes disorder in

classroom.

Happy new year to all our Kimball families!  This month has been a busy month already.  I’d like to give you an update of the exciting programs continuing at our school.  First, I would like to reassure you that our school has a safety plan in place and it is reviewed and updated annually at School Site Council and with the staff.  A copy of the school safety plan is in our school office for you to review. Secondly, our teachers are preparing our students for the upcoming STAR test at the beginning of May by including test taking strategies in their daily lessons.  Thirdly, our monthly Character Counts assemblies will continue throughout the remainder of the year. Thank you for all your support.  I would like to extend an invitation for you to support our PTO and ELAC parent groups at our campus. Our ELAC meets every 3rd Friday of the month in Portable F Please join us and support all the wonderful events coming up.

Sincerely,

Curriculum Preview

As you may be aware, California –along with 45 other states, has adopted new Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in English Language Arts and mathematics. Students will be assessed on the CCSS beginning in the 2014-2015 school year. AUSD will transition grades Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd to the CCSS beginning in the 2013-14 school year as these grades are not part of the current State Testing and Reporting (STAR) program.  This transition will require new English Language Arts curriculum as the current adopted materials are not aligned to the CCSS. These materials are available for preview on May 7th from 3:30 – 5:30 pm in the AUSD Board Room located at 510 G. Street. Staff will be on hand to answer any questions you might have regarding the new materials.

Healthy Snacks

Please remember to send a healthy snack with your

student. Healthy snacks for children is important to provide good nutrition, supporting lifelong healthy eating habits, and helping to prevent costly and potentially-disabling diseases, such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure, and obesity.

Most of the snacks served to children should be fruits and vegetables, since most kids do not eat the recommended five to thirteen servings of fruits and vegetables each day.
